At about what point does it become useful to use AP vs. stupid?
I mean..how much gold @ is it good to start using AP instead or how much would be wasteful?
Hard to judge when just getting started in this kind of game..
thanks for any insight. Don't want to be kicking myself later.

Thats a pretty good question. I don't know that there is a nice simple "dont spend AP until x" though
In general. Don't spend AP on pets. At least until we see how Ray's new pet arena works, so we can redo the math. otherwise, its a terrible return on investment. I mostly spend my AP on speed upgrades. Speed's gold costs are something like 4x faster growing than any other skill. Its AP costs dont do this though, so its a pretty good place to spend it once the gold costs become too high. I think Speed and Auto damage are the main things people spend AP on.

Spen my AP on speed and Auto dmg in start but used wrong....you have better rate gold/AP on gold rate than Auto dmg...(ofc best rate are on speed but second I think is gold rate)...so better use your AP on speed, then if you want to buy other upgrade use on gold rate...

Yeah, I used on speed so far-- it was pretty much a no brainer with those absurd gold to ap ratios..
