Losing IOU score

So, I was pretty excited today to hit 23K IOU (why?  No particular reason, I just like milestones).   I used some AP and was able to kill the next arena monster, thus leveling up my pet.   I clicked the character screen, to find my IOU score was 22945.... on the guild screen (which doesn't update right away, I know) it says 23016.   In between I got a few challenge points and levelled up a pet.   Any idea why that would happen?

OK, so in the time it took me to type this post, it went back to 23030...which makes sense. Any idea why some of the points would vanish for a bit?

I've had IOU score drop out of nowhere before, too.
Not sure why this happens.

Yeah scores seem a bit wobbly at times, we had a new guildmate join recently and it took 2/3 days for him to even register on the guild ranks

guess it's similar to when you have negative money

I think ascension points affect IOU score wherever you put them.

I'm not 100% sure, someone would have to test it.
