I am lvl 173 and's doing 'bout 6-8k idle dps. I feel that I am doing much lower than others Ive come across. As for someone whom if fairly new at this game what dps should I be doing at this point of the game? not much seem to increase my dps.

Try challenges, farm for cards, upgrade goldrate&triple loot and then focus on auto damage... upgrade pets

Not really asking how to increase my dmg. More am I doing average dmg or am I far behind what should be at that lvl?

It's impossible to say what your DPS should be at your level. Just keep upgrading and hitting card milestones

in my opinion focus on getting to 700 cp and then worry about dps

Here are some suggestions: Pet can increase your DPS, but Cards increase your DPS a LOT.
