Based on glitch abused. Utilizing things like duplicating, or outright breaking the game somehow is a quick goodbye...
The recent abuse was not an exploit, as it didn't require a manual process, nor was repeatable (at least not on purpose). It was more of a glitched instance. They did spend their earned resources though, so received a punitive rollback.
It also can highly depend on whether they reported it or not.
