In regards to the Thanksgiving event potential it is only celebrated in the US and if Ray wishes to stick closer to Internationally celebrated holidays then the US holiday should not have any influence in game events(from the US myself). A harvest festival event would be more understandable and could be held in any month.
Christmas is more global at the very least and celebrated in quite a few countries. The double event suggestion for December-January is a pretty good idea seeing how New Year is a big event across the world.
