It is obvious that no one is going to sell crystals for dirt cheap price when you reach higher levels.

Light has already been shed. Crystals are going to be used for crafting...crafting what lol, who knows. But Ray has said that Crystals are rare, so the thing which is being crafted will probably be very useful.

I don't know-- but I've got 200 of them waiting
