On the Kongregate version, I joined a guild member who was already in a group a couple worlds higher than I had access to and this happened:

As you can see, I was allowed to skip world 8 and go straight to 9. However, the kill counter didn't activate, so I would never be able to proceed past 9 without completing 8. It's possible this isn't just a Kong problem, but I'm not really in a position on my FB account to try to repro.
